We share our top photo locations that we visited while in Tokyo for a few days.

SHIBUYA CROSSING

The best way to experience Shibuya Crossing is to simply stand back and watch the crowds of people cross the intersection. Many visitors also enjoy taking photos or videos of the crossing from above, such as from the Shibuya Scramble Square building

TOKYO TOWER

While you don’t have to go up Tokyo Tower to appreciate its iconic appearance, the views from the observation decks are considered worth seeing. Tokyo has many great lookout points, but Tokyo Tower is among the best and most historic. We opted not to go up and got some amazing sunset shots from around the tower.

AKIHABARA ELECTRIC TOWN

Akihabara offers a wide range of activities for visitors, including:

  • Browse electronics, anime, and video game stores and shops
  • Visit themed cafes and restaurants, like maid cafes
  • Explore arcades and game centers
  • See street performers, cosplayers, and other cultural events
  • Spot real-life locations featured in anime and video games

If you can get here right before sunset, you can get some great shots of the city lighting up for the evening!

Omoide Yokocho

The best way to experience Omoide Yokocho is to wander through the narrow alleyways, pop into the small yakitori restaurants and bars, and soak in the lively, nostalgic atmosphere. Trying the grilled chicken skewers and having a beer or sake is recommended to fully immerse yourself in the local dining culture. The street is narrow, so it is pretty quick to walk from one side to the other. Be patient, as a lot of people are going to be walking through, but there will be a quick opening for a good photo shot. Going at night is the best, as the alley lights up with amazing colors!

TeamLab Planets

What to expect:

The teamLabs Planets experience is a walk-through exhibition with interactive digital art installations that engage all the senses. Visitors are required to explore the museum barefoot and there are certain rooms where the floors are covered in water. The exhibits are designed to be “body-immersive”, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the digital artworks. Bring your camera will you and watch out so you don’t get wet. Everywhere you turn will be amazing photo opportunities!
