The Mosaic Tile House started out as a regular 1940s beach house, owned by the creatively talented husband and wife, Cheri Pann and Gonzalo Duran, accomplished painters and ceramic artists. They felt like they needed to make their house shine with their personality.
Starting a decade ago and still building, this is a lifesize interactive art piece. The couple keeps adding to it, with Cheri’s luminous reds and Gonzalo’s playful turquoise. As you walk through the front yard, a yellow ceramic road winds you through the trees and beautiful glass sculptures.
Gonzalo and Cheri still live here, so you can meet and greet with them and then they take you on a personalized tour. Gonzalo guided us through the kitchen, which was the most colorful kitchen we’ve ever seen. It is so vibrant and every countertop, wall, and kitchen stool was filled floor to ceiling with tiles and a mix of other art material. It is the Most Colorful Mosaic Tile House we’ve ever seen!
He then brought us to the bathroom. That was one bathroom I could stay in all day. Colorful tiles and art everywhere, even on the toilet seat!
We then wandered into their studio. It was quite huge. All painted white and a dozen or so portraits of Gonzalo that Cheri painted of him. All picturing different personalities.
Can you take photos at the Mosaic Tile House?
We took photos around the house for a while, exploring every inch of its beauty. The most colorful and authentic house in Los Angeles that is for sure.
