A Beautiful Volcano lies dormant just 2.5 hours outside of Seattle

Why is Mount Rainier so dangerous?

Mount Rainier is a sleeping volcano, but due to the proximity of many cities, it is considered one of the most dangerous volcanos in the United States. Although it has not produced a significant eruption in 500 years, an eruption could be catastrophic, releasing not only lava but also water from the glaciers trigging mudflows.

It is so high that is often hidden in the clouds. Or, in our experience, that can change in minutes!

What are the best times of year to visit Mount Rainier National Park?

The finest season for hiking is summer (July–August), but it’s also the busiest. Though there won’t be as many visitors in the spring (late May–June) or fall (September–October), be ready for erratic weather and possibly snow at higher altitudes.

How difficult is it to hike Mount Rainier?

The degree of difficulty varies widely throughout trails. While some trails are well-kept and appropriate for novice hikers, reaching the peak necessitates extensive experience, mountaineering abilities, and physical fitness. Make sure the trails are appropriate for your skill level by researching them in advance. As you can see in our photos, we stayed on the paved path, which was very easy.

What are the best places to stay near Mount Rainier National Park?

Several options exist, depending on your budget and preferences. Paradise Inn is located right in the park and offers stunning views, but it books up quickly. Towns like Ashford, Packwood, and Enumclaw offer a variety of lodging options outside the park.

What is the best place to view Mount Rainier?

Depending on your preferred viewpoint and distance, there are numerous locations with breathtaking views of Mount Rainier. Because of its close proximity and striking vistas, Paradise in the national park is a well-liked option. Even portions of Seattle can see Mount Rainier on a clear day, albeit the distance lessens the mountain’s majesty.
